India vs Sri Lanka, Wankhede: India win by 7 wickets

In the match of India vs Sri Lanka, India defeated Sri Lanka by 7 wickets in the 33rd match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday. India captain Virat Kohli won the toss and elected to bat first. The hosts got off to a good start, with openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill putting on 53 runs for the first wicket. Sharma was out for 34, but Gill continued to bat well and scored a half-century. He eventually scored 72 before being dismissed, but India were in a strong position at 128/2.

Kohli and Shreyas Iyer then put on a 100-run partnership for the third wicket. Kohli scored 79, while Iyer made 57. India reached 276/3 from their 50 overs.

In the competitive match of India vs Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka, in response, got off to a poor start, with opener Danushka Gunathilaka making only 4 runs. Following his exit, Kusal Perera and Charith Asalanka set up a 63-run alliance for the second wicket, but Asalanka exited at 36. Perera then followed suit, departing at 44. This put Sri Lanka in a precarious situation at 129/4.

Dhananjaya de Silva and Wanindu Hasaranga made a 50-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Hasaranga was dismissed for 37, and de Silva was eventually dismissed for 43. Sri Lanka were all out for 208.

India’s Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers, taking three wickets for 33 runs.

With this win, India moved to the top of the Group A standings. They will next face Pakistan in the 36th match of the tournament on Sunday.
