LA — Soon after Harden and P.J. Tucker walked into their new locker room with the LA Clippers, Russell Westbrook greeted them with a hug.

Harden and Westbrook were teammates in Houston from 2012 to 2019, and they helped the Rockets reach the Western Conference Finals in 2018. The Nets traded for Harden in January 2021, while the Wizards traded for Westbrook in December 2020.

The Clippers acquired Harden and Tucker in a trade with the Nets on Thursday. The Clippers also received Ben Simmons, Seth Curry, and Andre Drummond in the trade.

Harden and Tucker arrived at Crypto.com Arena on Friday night for the Clippers’ game against the Los Angeles Lakers. Harden watched from a suite. Because he has not yet received the NBA’s health and safety approval, Harden was unable to participate in the game.

On Tuesday night, the Clippers’ other players and owner Steve Ballmer welcomed James Harden to the team. When Harden arrived at Crypto.Com Arena, Ballmer welcomed him and gave him a tour of the venue. Westbrook and his other new teammates welcomed Harden as he met with the rest of the team in the locker room. Harden will make his debut for the Clippers on Sunday against the Denver Nuggets.

The Clippers lost to the Lakers on Friday night. The Clippers expect Harden to make his debut for them on Sunday when they play the Denver Nuggets.
